Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the use of essences of plants for therapeutic and health benefits has been around thousands of years.  In Judeo Christian writings it was used for anointing and healing.  And it has been used in Ayuvedic medicine for centuries as well.   The modern term  "aromatherapie"  was created by a French chemist named Rene Maurice Gattefosse (1881-1950) while he studied the use of fragrant oils and their healing properties.  It was Madame Marguerite Maury (1895-1968)  who prescribed essential oils for patients.  She is credited with the modern use of aromatherapy oils being used for massage.

Essential Oils are highly concentrated aromatic extracts that come form cold-pressing or stem-distilling plants.  These extracts come from grasses, leaves, flowers, fruit peels, wood and roots.   It takes 200 pounds of lemon peel or 1500 lemons to make 1 pound of lemon essential oil.

Each  aromatherapy oil has a specific therapuetic effect such as relaxing, stimulating, immune boosting, relieving congestion, or soothing muscular aches and pains.  The powerful scents affect the nasal  and olfactory senses that create an immediate response.  These essential oils can lift your spirits when your down.  If you have had a stessful day they have a calming affect.  Many of the oils have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties that boost your immune system.

Aromatherapy oil or Essential oils can be used in many different ways.  One of the most popular ways is with aromatherapy diffuser.  It is also used in massage oils, in bath water, in lotions and many other ways.
