Chinese Medicine

Chinese medicine is thought to have originated from Chinese folk remedies and thousands of years of empirical evidence.   The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine, written about 2500 BCE,   is the earliest known text on Chinese Medicine. The Oriental medical view of the body is based on how the body works in terms of Energy or Qi.(pronounced “Chee”)  The Qi keeps the body alive and active. Chinese medicine also uses the idea of the Yin and Yang, which explains the balance of all life and the 5 elements (Fire, Wood, Water, Metal and Earth.) Each element is associated with channels of energy that are found in the body.  The balance of these elements in a person develops a healthy life.  In Chinese medicine there is the belief that the energy flows through these channels at a rhythmic cycle each day according to the Chinese body clock.  This energy can become stagnant and an illness will develop. Chinese medicine uses acupuncture, acupressure, Shiatsu massage and herbal remedies to treat a person and help restore the balance in the body.
